Frenchman Bay Conservancy Preserves and Trails

FBC works to protect lands in the Upper Union River Watershed, Lower Union River Watershed, Frenchman Bay Watershed, and the Schoodic to Schoodic Corridor. Conserved lands protect a broad variety of ecosystems and traditional land uses, including forest, wetlands, coastline, mountains, an organic farm, a working woodlot, blueberry fields, and waterfront along a wild and scenic river. More than 40 miles of year-round public access hiking trails are maintained for nature observation, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and hunting. Scenic vistas, sandy beaches, rocky coastlines and mudflats are also protected for public access.
Consult the FBC website and trail guide for a full listing of places to visit. Here are our favorite spots.

Little Tunk Pond has a sandy beach and great for swimming with beautiful views of surrounding mountains.

Mariaville Falls has a trail along the Union River with some step falls. Great forest bathing.

Tidal Falls is a reversing falls best seen two hours before and two hours after low tide. In summer there is music on Mondays. Great picnic spot and fun for seal watching.

Baker Hill is a 58-acre preserve features several trails through forest that lead to dramatic granite ledges looking south to MDI and north to Schoodic Mountain. Enhance your hike by exploring the adjacent Long Ledges that has huge glacial outcroppings and an abandoned granite quarry.

There are plenty more to choose from so check out the FBC website for more.
