Acadia National Park - Isle au Haut

If you are up for an ocean adventure, checkout ANP on Isle au Haut. 1/2 of the island is owned by the National Park Service and the other 1/2 is privately owned by residents and fishermen. Isle au Haut is linked to the mainland by a year-round, passenger-only ferry from Stonington to the Isle au Haut Town Landing. From mid-June through late September, the ferry also stops at the Duck Harbor Boat Landing, near the campground. The ferry operates on a first-come, first-served basis.

Be prepared with sturdy foot gear for rocky trails. It's cold on the boat and the island is about ten degrees cooler than the mainland. Bring warm clothing and rain gear.

There are 18 miles of trails with opportunities to explore rocky shorelines, wooded uplands, marshes, bogs, and a mile-long freshwater lake. Duck Harbor provides the best starting point for hiking. Five campsites are available for reservation at Duck Harbor from May through mid October.
