Acadia National Park - Schoodic
If the crowds on Mount Desert Island are too overwhelming, check out Acadia National Park on the Schoodic Peninsula - the only mainland portion of the park accessed via Winter Harbor. It's about 30 miles from Falls Farmstead with much less traffic. A 6 mile one-way road loops around the Schoodic Peninsula. Favorite spots are the Frazer Point Picnic Area, walking the rocky granite coastline on Schoodic Point, Blueberry Hill, Schoodic Head and many turnouts with varied coastlines, vistas and crashing waves.

For bikers, there are 8.3 miles (13.4 km) of bike paths. Steep and winding bike paths provide spectacular views.

There is 7.5 miles of networked hiking trails across the peninsula, from Winter Harbor in the north through spruce-fir forests, pine woodlands, and a shrubland, terminating on the southern end at Blueberry Hill. Enjoy views from the Anvil and Schoodic Head, as well as some challenging steep climbs from the East Trail.

On the way out of the park, stop in The Pickled Wrinkle restaurant, named for an old Downeast Maine Delicacy. Large carnivorous sea snails, or whelks, are pickled and marketed locally as Pickled Wrinkles.
